Postural Enhancement : An Exercise System

Foundation:

Yvonne Rosenthal is trained in the “Muscle Balance and Function Development System” which was created by Geoff Gluckman. Mr. Gluckman has a Masters Degree in Exercise Science and a Health/Fitness Instructor Certification by American College of Sports Medicine.

1. This system is based on the fundamentals of physics and biomechanics. Incorporating the laws of physics and biomechanics into the exercise system is how the body responds quickly to correct misalignments, deviations, posture weaknesses, muscle imbalances, causes of pain and symptoms.

2. This system has a holistic approach: The body functions as a whole unit, therefore, to correct a symptom such as shoulder pain, a progression of sequential exercises for the whole body is used that have been systematically oriented toward this client’s unique needs. In this way longer lasting results can occur.

3. These exercises target the postural muscle groups and retrain the neuromuscular system, reminding each muscle of the function it was designed to perform. This will result in a body feeling the least amount of compensation, resistance and stress and will restore the body to a higher level of function and health.

4. These exercises require minimal equipment and can be performed almost anywhere.

The goal is to attain “Optimal Alignment” which is when the shoulders, hips, knees and ankles are directly above one another. There are no twists, rotations, or imbalances and the knees and feet point straight ahead.

Here are some examples of Posture weaknesses and their causes of symptoms:

  • Forward rounded shoulders can cause shoulder and neck pain
  • Elevated rotated hip can cause lower back pain
  • Head forward can cause neck pain and headaches
  • Pronated feet can cause pain in feet
