Infant (Pediatric) Massage
by Elena Fursova, RMT
Having a baby is a big change for the family. During this wonderful period, every family experiences some struggles while being happy at the same time. Infant massage is one of the best options that can help to create a special bond between a parent and a baby and also help with their development in many ways. Giving your baby a daily massage is a great way to express your care and affection for your baby. Moreover, it will bring parenting into a more confident level of and fearlessness through touch.
The tradition of massaging babies has many advantages for both the parents and your baby. Touch is the one of the five senses that is the most developed at birth, and research suggests that infant massage has enormous benefits for helping babies thrive and grow. Introducing massage early in life has the potential to improve the development of the infant’s musculoskeletal system and facilitate their emerging nervous system.
A massage can soothe and calm your baby and help them to stay relaxed and comfortable. It may even help them to sleep better and cry less. Recent research studies show that massage therapy can ease both physical symptoms as well as emotional discomforts associated with pediatric medical conditions.
Infant Massage Therapy can also help manage chronic conditions such as asthma by promoting relaxation and reducing muscle tone in the respiratory muscles of the chest, mid back and neck. Nausea and constipation can be treated by addressing the muscle of the abdomen and G.I. tract. Myalgia, which is chronic muscle soreness, can be reduced by providing a relaxing general relaxation massage.
We would be honoured to have the opportunity to massage your infant and we could pass along our knowledge and experience to their caregivers, so you can continue providing your loved one with the care they deserve at home.
