Kip Petch, B.P.E.
REGISTERED MASSAGE THERAPIST SINCE 1986 – MTAA
GRANT MacEWAN COLLEGE SPORT FELLOW – CSMTA (Canadian Sport Massage Therapists Association)
I have been involved in sports in a variety of capacities as an athlete, Trainer, Sport Fellow (formerly designated as Certified Sport Massage Therapist), coach and parent. I played basketball, soccer and track and field at the University/College level and spent several years as a coach for college, high school and club basketball teams.
I began my training in Athletic Therapy at John Abbott College in Montreal and got my first taste of international experience as a therapist at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal. I completed my Physical Education degree at the University of Alberta in 1979 and then spent 10 years as the Athletic/Massage Therapist for several professional soccer teams in Edmonton.
I completed my formal Massage Therapy training at Grant MacEwan College in 1986 and received my Sport Massage training from SMTI in California and opened the Active Life Centre later that year.
I helped to organize and supervise the Sport Massage coverage at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary and following that event became the Massage Therapist for the Edmonton Oilers of the NHL. I have worked with the Edmonton Eskimos of the CFL and has also been employed by the Canadian Bobsleigh Teams, the Canadian Women's Soccer Team, the Canadian Women's Hockey Team and the Canadian Men’s Tennis Team. I was the Director of Sport Massage at the 2001 World Athletic Championships and the 2014 ITU Triathlon Championships.
My Major Games experiences as a Sport Massage Therapist for the Canadian Medical Team include four Summer Olympics in Montreal (1976), Beijing (2008), London (2012) and Rio (2016) and four Winter Olympics in Calgary (1988), Torino (2006), Vancouver (2010) and Sochi (2014). I was also involved in the Pan Am Games in Santa Domingo (2003) and Guadalajara (2011), the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne (2006) and the Francophone Games in Beirut (2009).
I have recently co-authored a book entitled “Sport Massage–Theory and Techniques for the Massage Therapist”. I have instructed Sport Massage and Sports Taping for over 35 years and am one of fewer than 30 Sport Fellows in Canada.
All of these amazing experiences have helped to refine my abilities to administer therapy for the vast array of conditions that I see at our clinic. I enjoy every challenge when working with our clients, whether dealing with their overall health, injuries or post-surgical conditions.
I look forward to providing you with the high quality of care that you deserve!
