Myofascial Decompression Massage

Fascia is a “spider’s web” of connective tissue that encompasses and supports the entire body. It is multi-layered, it can vary in thickness, and may possess different tensile strength, pliability and texture. Fascia provides the internal structure of the entire human body and is connective tissue that holds bones, blood vessels, nerves, organs, and muscle in place. It also has its own network of nerves, which make it as sensitive as skin. Fascia decreases friction within joints, decreases muscle tension, and has the ability to contract. Fascia also organizes the water and fluids in the body. Healthy fascia is slippery, smooth and stretches with the body as it moves. Unhealthy fascia and connective tissue is often dehydrated, and may cause pain in the body. Unhealthy fascia is thick, sticks to surrounding tissues and can restrict range of motion.
Myofascial pain has a different feel to it than other body pain. Usually, myofascial pain occurs in those high traffic areas (such as joints), where the tissues meets and crosses with other tissues. This makes myofascial pain difficult to identify, because the affected tissue is deeply connected to all surrounding tissues and can easily spread to other areas of the body if not treated right away.
Myofascial Decompression Massage focuses on relieving chronic and persistent pain, helps to restore range of motion, and provides fluid re-balancing for better glide between tissues within the body. It is a holistic approach to body pain that is less invasive. This therapy is great for clients who have a low threshold for pressure, low pain tolerance, or have tried other modalities with limited success. Myofascial Decompression Massage works within the entire body and it provides better movement and pain-free range of motion in your daily functions and activities.
Karolina Cimoch is the only Registered Massage Therapist at the Active Life Centre who presently includes Myofascial Decompression Massage into their practice.
