Thai Massage Therapy
by Elena Fursova, RMT
Thai Massage is an ancient system of holistic bodywork involving complex sequences of pressing, gentle rocking and stretching techniques within the body’s natural range of motion to bring your mind and body in balance. Thai Massage combines influences from both Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese medicine, affecting the connective tissue, fascia and blood flow. Thai massage is based on a theory of “sen” lines, similar to the energy channels in acupuncture.
With the hands of a skilled Thai Massage practitioner, one can experience a sublimely rhythmical workout which balances the body’s need for movement and stretching. This type of massage positively interacts with the muscular, circulatory and nervous systems to enhance your body’s natural healing ability.
By utilizing effective Thai massage pressing techniques, joint mobilizations and various yoga-like stretches, clients can experience a relief of body stiffness, may gain flexibility and help improve overall balance in major muscle groups. It promotes overall health and flexibility, relieves aches and pains, promotes enhanced range of motions and relaxes the whole body.
Thai Massage is performed fully clothed in loose comfortable clothing on a special floor mat. The positions of the clients can vary depending on their specific issues and their level of comfort. They can be seated, laying on back or front, or side lying. It is important to wear loose clothes, so there is no restriction of movement. The Thai Massage practitioner will utilize their own body weight while employing an alternation of deeper and gentle massage techniques, and stretches, to help release tension and open up the flow of energy and vitality.

Thai Reflexology is the application of pressure upon specific pressure points of the feet that correspond to different body organs and systems. Our feet represent our internal body and with the right intention we can influence the body’s healing process.
Thai Reflexology can improve general health and energy flow and help the body to maintain homeostasis. The muscles in our feet are often neglected and circulation is impeded with many hours of standing, sitting or wearing uncomfortable or improper fitting shoes. It can also reduce the negative effects of flat feet and plantar fasciitis.
Thai Reflexology can also prevent and assist in pain reduction with many symptoms such as headaches, migraines, and can help of the body recover after an injury. It can also provide emotional support for issues such as stress, depression and anxiety.
The pressure is applied by using hands, fingers, thumbs, or a wooden stick and may include the application of heat packs and oil.
